Mr. Rodrigo Pacheco's Exvoto-Paint
In the church of San Juan Bautista in Argamasilla de Alba, in the chapel of the Virgin of Charity, is exposed the painting donated by ex-voto Don Rodrigo Pacheco, dated 1601. At the bottom of the painting can be read this inscription:
Our Lady appeared to be bad this gentleman a very serious disease doctors helpless eve of San Mateo years MDCI commending this Lady and promising a silver lamp calling day and night of great pain I had in a very cold welcome that was caught on the inside.
By the time dated, and references to the disease has been able to identify the donor of the painting as the gentleman who met Cervantes in this town and which was inspired to create his character of Don Quixote.
